Our Family of the Month is the Serrano Family from St. Martin of Tours Parish, St. Martin of Tours Council. Joe and Rebecca have two daughters, Eva and Elena. They have been active parishioners ever since they were children in their own local parishes- Our Lady of Guadalupe in Logan Heights and Santa Sophia in Spring Valley. And now their own children continue that tradition. “Becoming involved in church life was a value we wanted to instill in our children” said Rebecca.
Over their years at St. Martin, they’ve supported the parish and the school as well as the Knights of Columbus. They helped with all aspects of events such as the Octoberfest, parish dinners, Sunday donuts and pancake breakfasts, and the recent Tootsie Roll (ID) Drive- all of which are family affairs for the Council. Eva and Joe are in the Church Choir, Rebecca and Eva help lead Vacation Bible Camp, and Rebecca also helps teach Faith Formation classes. The girls keep an active schedule with Girl Scouts, as Altar Servers, and in the youth group. The family has also been very involved in the Building a Miracle program, building homes for needy families down in Mexico. Their DD sums it up by saying that Joe, a 3rd Degree Knight, is just a good man who keeps his young girls and his wife happy and involved. Sounds like a good Family of the Month to us!
